These microbes were left on a special platform outside the Pressurised module of the ISS for one year. The Bacterium amazingly survived in space\u2019s evacuee with UV radiation and huge temperature fluctuations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, after the year outside, the researchers got the bacterium back on Earth, to compare it with both a control that spent a year on Earth and one that spend 3565 days in Low Earth Orbit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/this-bacterium-survived-on-the-outside-of-the-space-station-for-a-year\">ScienceAlert<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThis kind of study helps us understand whether bacteria could survive other worlds,&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Panspermia\"><em>and maybe even the journey between them<\/em><\/a><em>, which will become more and more important as we humans and the germs we bring with us begin to travel farther than our Moon&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/here-s-how-nasa-plans-to-explore-time-and-space-across-the-next-10-years\"><em>into the Solar System<\/em><\/a><em>, and one day maybe even beyond.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers have studied&nbsp;Deinococcus radiodurans&nbsp;\u2014 a species of bacterium first found in a can of meat \u2014&nbsp;for some time.
